I was curious about the age of that older boat on the left, the William H Donner. Launched in 1914 and converted to a crane ship in the 50s. She's still working, but only as a stationary freight transfer. She looks pretty sad now with her superstructure removed. http://www.shipspotting.com/photos/middle/1/5/3/1587351.jpg

The Donner had not moved for years when this photo was taken. The scrapyard used it as a stationary crane ship. Much of the US Steel fleet used to dock here for the winter, but they prefer the Twin Ports or Sturgeon Bay now. We do get a few 1000 footers though. 5056 was moved around the scrapyard numerous times until it finally went to IRM. I'm not sure if it ever actually ran in the scrapyard.
