Very beautiful shot and I learned a lot from your extensive notes.
I had no idea that an oil fired locomotive was more difficult to fire than a coal fired loco.
I rode behind Norfolk and a Western no.611 in 1983.It took a long time to get the cinders out of my hair and ears, since I rode in an open window coach.
Several years ago I rode behind Santa Fe 3751 in a Budd dome car. Quite a bit cleaner but both fun.
