Ya'know Bill... I did think sumthin was a bit "off" about that 45. How many SD-45's were made w/o Dynamics??...not many I reckon.

CNW acquired SD45s 901-977 between February 1967 and February 1969. None had dynamic brakes, and to my knowledge CNW was the only railroad that ordered them that way. After this purchase, CNW did not by any new power until the SD40-2s arrived starting in 1973. They did acquire the former N&W Alco C628s in 1973, and possibly other used power. Later CNW picked up a healthy supply of used SD45s from BN/CR with dynamics to help alleviate a power shortage with the Spine Line purchase and opening of coal traffic from the Powder River Basin. They also continued to buy SD40-2s new, and later GP50s, SD50s and 60s before going to GE.
