It seems unusual to preserve a boxcar. But I think it's a good idea. They are a HUGE part of railroad history.

I had one just like that in my American Flyer O gauge train set. I hope they keep the graffiti people away from it.

I agree with showalterbj - there are a scarce number of older box cars preserved and these "modern" freight cars will likely follow their path. Looks like a 1:1 scale TYCO with the fresh paint.

Going through some older Street View pictures on Google Maps it looks as though it was repainted between 2009 and 2012. Nice that they are putting in an effort to keep this gem looking good. Maybe they just painted one side. They used to do that with the Glasgow Underground. It was two circles of track, no points (switches), so only one side of the train was seen, hence as a cost cutting exercise, only one side of the trains were painted.
