Growing up in Roebling the "old" days when the steel mill was operating in full force..the hum of the electric furnaces actually was a welcomed sound. Looking at the picture, the area between the NJT train and the "wheel" in the background was actually once a rail yard holding the gondolas and coke/coal cars for the mill. The Bordentown Secondary track in which the NJT train is on was once double tracked from The NJ Turnpike extension to Bordentown as there was so much freight traffic. The Secondary is the only route connecting Trenton to Camden, and was once used for several weeks back in the 70's when the Delair RR bridge was stuck in the open position.
