The track was WWII-vintage PRR 152 lb jointed rail in those days, good for 75 mph. I think freights were allowed 50 mph. We used to "peak" the joints from time-to-time, on the old "FRA tie-gang."

Oh man, great photo. I was able to catch it just before they closed the crossing, and it was a great place.
