UNUSUAL to see 222 operating with the short hood forward. Long Island normally considered the long-hood end of hood units to be the "Front." While I believe this practice was inherited from the Pennsylvania during the era when the Pennsy controlled the LIRR, it also afforded crews better protection in the event of a grade crossing accident.

Rich, I'm guessing that there was no way to turn the 222 at Oyster Bay. The turntable may have been out of service, if it was even still in place then. Been too long for me to remember.
