James, these units are beautiful. I wish I could have seen them pulling for Union Pacific. Thanks for posting these magnificent Conrail locomotives here for all to see.

Yes, some "extra" units built to sub if needed if warranty repairs were being done on any of Conrail's order.
Obviously not needed at the time, hence the ability to "loan" them to UP.
