Bill, there is not a crossing in the middle of the siding at Sully Springs. The gated crossing near the east switch is the only crossing on the siding. Eastbound coal loads will usually stop at the west end of Sully Springs if they have to wait for a westbound to clear in the siding. I prefer to stop at the west end if I have to wait because then my train is in a sag instead of on a steep ascending grade. Between siding switches at Sully Springs it is a stiff eastbound ascending grade. Also, CTC is in effect from West Fryburg eastward. If the dispatcher gives the lineup to a westbound at West Fryburg before the east bound passes East Siding Switch Rider, the eastbound will have a stop indication at West Siding Switch Sully Springs until the westbound crew pushes the button to take the siding at the east end.

Thank you for your added clarification on how trains operate here. The crossing is indeed near the east end, and your comments are quite beneficial to those of us wishing to learn more about why trains operate as they do at given locations.
