I recall reading D&H got them cheaply by trading some cars going to scrap. Baldwin's later diesel models had good reputations for reliability being good pullers; many lived relatively long lives. Perhaps some day the owner if these two locomotives will return them to service or consider trading them to someone who still operates Baldwins.

The Second Diesel Spotter's Guide says that RF-16s had engines by De La Vergne, a builder of marine engines. The generator and traction motors were from Westinghouse. Must have been a good combination.

They may have ONLY been rated at 1600 hp and had prime movers that ran at incredibly slow rpms but these beauties could PULL ! I am THANKFUL for having been able to spend at least a little time around them
