Is more about this operation in either or both the books, An American Original, the PCC Car by Seymour Kashin and Harre Demoro; and, PCC From Coast to Coast by Fred W. Schneider III and Stephen P. Carlson.
I just got up and digging in the books is more than my brain is up for, they are 200 and 300 page hardcovers, but this will give a place to look for.

Leonard's was a Department Store in Fort Worth which operated this "Subway" as a means of bring people in to their store from outlying parking area(s) when the volume of customers overwhelmed their available in-town parking. Seems like an idea WAY ahead of its time. Google Leonards Department Store Museum to find more info on this.
