I was in Lake Placid that weekend myself. Not quite peak but still a beautiful weekend. Nice train ride, I have taken it a few times already. Should be hearing a final decision on the fate of this line from LP to Saranac Lake as there is a proposed trail that would tear up the rails along this part of the line in favor of a multi use recreational trail. One thing the Adirondacks are not short of are trails, regardless of what pass time you like. This rail line is the only one remaining from CNY to the central Adirondacks, however. If they stay then the Adirondack Railroad will be opening sevice from Utica to Lake Placid through what must be some amazing wilderness to see via the train! If not, the train will terminate in Saranac Lake.
