Great photo, I was there that day too! There is one surviving SP H12-44, the 2379 (former 1581) is preserved at the Age of Steam museum in Texas. I don't think it ever operated on Pacific lines though.

I rode the final train that day. It was a great way to spend my birthday. #2472 put on a great show. It was a treat to see and hear #1487 as well.
