Fishermen similarly describe how good it is to experience the outdoors while fishing, campers also describe how good it is to sit around a crackling camp fire at night, and likewise railroaders have their own out door experiences while waiting for trains to pass by. Any railfan who has waited at a photo location like this can certainly echo your sentiments! Nice write up....you can tell it made a lasting memory for you.

I would love to know where that location was. Almost all traces of that road have been scrubbed from this earth. Thanks for the effort!

The site of the photo was about half of a mile south of the Webberville Road crossing east of Austin.

This SP C-25 consolidation was built in 1913 by Alco at Schenectady, NY for the Texas Midland Railroad as TM 201. Serial number 54212 has 56 inch drivers and 22 by 28 cylinders. TM 201 and its sister locomotive, TM 200 later SP 895, originally operated between Terrell, Texas and Paris, Texas. April 1, 1928, the Texas Midland was sold to Southern Pacific and TM 201 became SP 896 on the Paris Branch of the Houston Division. Have later photos of both sides of SP 896 with a larger capacity tender.
