It's a shame nothing ever came of the old CRI&P St. Louis District. So many plans to reactivate it over time, but all fell through, even with support from the would-be active shippers. Now that the line is officially abandoned (after sitting for over 30 years, simply inactive), plans are for it to become another rail-trail, much like the KATY.
