It looks like a lot of power on this train. How do railroads determine the amount of power to put on a train? There is quite a bit of day to day rail operations that I confess to being ignorant of.

The train was very long for 371 on this day. Most of the time, it's two SD40-2s and around 30 cars, today it was at least 60, and that was after setting out cars in Dalton also. I will be honest, I have no clue how the railroads determine the specific power for their trains, although I know each locomotive has a "tonnage rating" for how much it can pull on a given route.
