I wonder who fetched the crew? Another train perhaps? Mike, did you ski in to this site??

Why the door was not closed?

Red Eddie: I honestly don’t know how the old crew was picked up during the storm. By this time, Highway 72 was just barely opened up by plows, road graders and front end loaders. I say just barely since much of it was just one lane…
classick: The door was left open by a new crew that is putting the train back together. Note the freshly trampled snow that has fallen onto the main line plowed the day before.

It's possible they got the crew out via HiRail. They do that in the Sierras. I imagine it's not any different in Colorado.

Mike: I seriously doubt using a hi-rail was how the crew got out. The main on the left wasn’t plowed yet when the train was tied up in the siding, and the area got way too much snow for a hi-rail to travel through. I’ll let you know if I ever find out more…
