Posted by Dale Roth on June 13, 2015  I'll start over since I hit the wrong button. Horsepower rating on EL followed their numbering system. This is a U33C rated at 3300 HP. SD45 was numbered 3600 up rated at 3600 HP. The EMD GP35 was numbered 2500 up rated at 2500 HP. There was a different unit having 3600 HP but it was used on passenger trains from Cleveland to Youngstown. Posted by xBNSFer on June 14, 2022  EL 3301-3315 were U33Cs, EL 3316-3328 were U36Cs, so although they customarily numbered according to horsepower rating, this was an exception to that "rule."
