The Katy made into a "B-unit" by covering the windows and installing a somewhat unsightly new nose door (not really visible from this angle, which does a great job of preserving the classic F-unit lines).

Not paint, that's a metal plate over job. MKT did that to make them B units for trail in consist use only.

Thanks for the added input guys. I explained the conversion in an photo of this unit from 2014, but didn't feel like being repetitive and adding that info again. In hindsight I probably should have.
