The paint scheme on those GE's is reminiscent of the old EMD demonstrator scheme. Interesting and very cool!

The first road locomotives on the Detroit Edison roster were SD40's. It is very likely that DE had no paint scheme in mind when ordering, and EMD offered their demo scheme. The scheme endured for all DE road diesels.
