Great shot, John.

I really can't even begin to tell you how many hours I've spent staring at and studying this very train thanks to the David Giglio photo in the Joseph W. Shine (your father?) book SPSF Motive Power-1986. David's very nearly identical picture to this one, I presume he was standing next to you when you snapped this one, along with all the other pictures in that book had a thorough examination from me every night for the first year that I owned that book...and then every other night the year after that! I'm surprised the spine of the book is still in good shape to this day. My young teenage mind in those late 80's years was an insatiable sponge for anything Southern Pacific, Kodachrome, Oil Cans, tough mountain railroading, etc. and this photo added a lot of moisture to that very dry sponge. Also, as a happy side note to all of that, as I type this, I have a beautiful HO scale model of the 8526 in Kodachrome that Athearn produced last year. Thank you to all who were involved with that book and to Athearn as well.
