Great photo taken before the bridge was damaged by fire. The origin of the fire has never conclusively been determined, but there has long been suspicion that it was deliberately set, effectively killing the Lehigh and Hudson River's through-haul traffic.

Great photo and write-up. Although closed to rail traffic, it's good to know that such an impressive structure wasn't scrapped.

I still have Railfan issue #1 from November 1974 that profiled the L&HR and tells about the Poughkeepsie bridge fire. Nice shot.

Fantastic photograph! Regret I can not duplicate it today but happy to know it was not only preserved but even accessible by foot. Would be something to have traffic rise to the point it would be brought back to spec and into rail service again. For now... up a few rungs on the list of places to visit. Thanks for sharing!
