The Amtrak service from Newport News was and still is a Northeast Regional that terminates in Boston. At the time of this photo it was named the Colonial as passed through most of the original 13 Colonies and stopped in Williamsburg, VA. In the late 90's this service was expanded to two trains a day. The Cardinal is a NY-Washington to Chicago via Charlottesville, VA train.
