I met Mr. Collins when he and the 611 were in Bellevue, Ohio back in the 80's. What a lucky guy...operate a 'J' back in the steam era and then again after the 611's restoration.

611 Was in Jacksonville, IL in the mid 80's and I rode it to Griggsville, IL. (learned real quick that I should have worn goggles) When I got off, I rubbed 611's black round nose for a memory, not knowing that 30 years later 611 would still be in the mix.

I met Frank Collins in Norfolk, VA in 1982 when our NRHS chapter ran our first special from Norfolk to Petersburg. In the spring of 1985 I was allowed a cab ride from Petersburg, VA to Crewe with Collins at the throttle and Jack Taylor as fireman. I was the only visitor in the cab at the time! It was then that I learned that Collins payed attention to those who chased the train. He asked who was driving my Ford pickup truck as we passed it just west of Petersburg.
