Chris, can you explain what the term "builds the bank" means for us lay people? Thanks for the photo from Essex.

Building a bank means making a large pile of coal right inside the firebox door to sustain the fire overnight, while keeping the pressure down. Once the crew comes in the following morning, the bank is spread out in the firebox with a rake and is used to get the fire going and up to pressure.
