Awesome shot and location. Any idea what the fenced off area once was?

At this point, the fenced off area is a bird sanctuary; it once was a naval ammunition depot where ordinance for warships was stored, then transported by barge down the Hudson River to the Brooklyn Navy Yard as needed.
