As I understand it, the big GTELs had fuel consumption at idle about equal to that at full throttle. Try that today!

Read a story once where one of these monsters sat & was idling under an overpass & after a couple of hours the asphalt on the bridge deck was starting to melt.

Just stumbled on this image, a near-twin of one I took of the same turbine on the sme day at the same place.You say "No Name on Slide." I think I can supply one:It's either by the late Ken Crist or by F. Hol Wagner. We frequently photographed together and both were alongo n that trip to North Platte. Jim Calvert may have joined us.
