Read the interesting dialogue on the evolution of this photograph in the forum section. This is a great shot and luck or skill really does not matter as you managed to catch it.

That particular lightning strike almost looks like what's called "reverse lightning"...where the charge is opposite in polarity from most and actually originates from the ground up and fans out into the atmosphere. I can't tell whether that's indeed the case, but regardless, an incredible photograph!
