AM I the only one who sees the white bronco?
Posted by David West on April 14, 2014
Yes you must be the only one who sees the white bronco! There are 4 or 5 large white cars in the background of this wonderful photo of a wonderful steam loco, storming down the road. Great photo David thanks for sharing.

This photo is interesting in so many ways. To name just a few....the right-of-way is a narrow corridor walled with concrete, there are numerous car drivers gawking at a steam locomotive, and the stark contrast of a steam era locomotive running right down the middle of a modern busy freeway with 10 plus lanes is incredible! Thanks for sharing!

I see the white Bronco also in the middle lane just behind the white Chevy in the very inside lane. Awesome pic I'd love to get a shot like this.

I think I have a photograph of something coming up this line taken about 30 years ago. I was so shocked I remember screaming at my wife in the passenger "press the shutter, take photos don't wait for the camera to settle down, just keep taking". Where was the photographer standing to take this 'head on' shot?

Everybody is talking about the Bronco. How about the person taking the picture out of the sunroof of the black Audi.

This is why we need to preserve all steam locomotives that still exist. And have as many operational as possible. The love of steam locomotives. The great history they tell. I can assure you there's drivers in this photo who have only read about them, only seen photos of them, but never seen or heard a steam locomotive in use. They capture most everyone's attention when they roll by. From there on, they're hooked. New railfans & new contributors to their preservation. Yes, it happened to me many years ago and it makes me happy to see it happen to many more.

There's a Video of this on YouTube, just type in ( Santa Fe 3751 Steam Special in 2014 )

It looks like every driver and passenger(s) is looking at 3751. PCA from me.

Fantastic Shot. I would have wrecked my car to get a shot of steam in revenue service. Can we get #3751 to come through Orlando Fl on schedule.

Tom, check out www.westcoastrailways.co.uk The steam hauled trains started running here a few years back, and the husband of the secretary of my customer made lot of money in wages for the first year, at least, of it running. He was a 'retained' fire fighter with the local fire brigade and was paid 'per call out'. Well, every time this steam loco went up and down it set the line side vegetation on fire somewhere, he was called out. Kerrching, the regimental March of the Fifth Mounted Cash Registers. The bridge shown is Glenfinnan Viaduct and the cars in the shot shown are parked in a car park so it is very easy to gets shots of this location.

This very scene was what brought me back to railroad fandom when I chased 3751 unexpectedly from LA to SBD on 2004. Great shot!
