How Ironic, Amtrak converted to HEP in the 70s because Steam was "outdated" & prone to freezing. Now its a reverse case some 30 plus years later!

True, however the electric heat and lighting is going strong. Instead of using it to heat the cars, it is used today to clear snow and ice out of the pocket doors, trap steps and other exposed parts of the cars.
