An axle off one of the derailed cars ended up nearly a block away from the tracks, chasing a vehicle away from the crossing, and hitting a pillar at a local gas station. How would this cause the train to derail? Was the switch damaged?

I'm sure one doesn't expect to see an axle rolling down a road that is normally used by vehicles and not trains. Interesting Capture Joe!
