Also - could the overhead catenary actually supply enough power for such large lashup? I would think it would overload any feeder substation

Yes, too much power. You can see the end of the train. It's not that long. So something must have gone wrong. But look at all the complicated/expensive overhead over the yard.

If I'm not mistaken it looks like the bunk-outfit cars the "System Steel Gang" used to use during that era on Milwaukee. Great to see Joes and Box-cabs on the site. Thanks for adding this one David!

Train is definitely related to maintenance. Anyone spot the 2 steam loco tenders in the consist? Plus there is a Milwaukee "company service" wooden ice reefer behind the boxcab in light blue.
