It's very interesting that steam-powered equipment is still being used in Germany in 2013. Is this a common practice there?

Seem to be no need for high-tech/clean technology here. The fuel is free! But I'm surprised they allowed to pollute that much. A wonderful photograph however.

I think the Photographer has listed the photo credit of the mine as being from China and that HE, the photographer is from Germany. The mine is in China; the flat car behind the steam shovel has Chinese markings on it.

What steam shovel? The "Location/Date of Photo" says "Sandaoling, Germany...". As for the Chinese markings, your guess is as good as anyone's. You're probably correct about the photo being of a coal mine in China, but the information as presented doesn't say that.
