The former Southern Railway GP38's suffered the same fate as many of their sisters. They were eventually sent to the Norfolk Southern's Altoona, Pa. shops and were rebuilt with new low short hoods and the same internal changes as the NS GP38's in the rebuild program. When going through the rebuild process one of them returned to RJ Corman on it's own frame. The other one of these two actually ended up as one of Norfolk Southern's new 700 series Road Slugs, which means that the other unit that RJ Corman got back came from another available GP38 that was on hand at that time.
