Actually, the second loco is not an ex-Conrail GP40, but rather a DRGW GP40-2 that has been repainted .

Glenn; I wonder if the 3112 was repainted by Mid-America Car in Kansas City like the rest of the former Conrails… the color of orange paint (and numberboard-style) sure makes it look like it was.

Chris, you are correct! I checked my notes, and this is a photo of the local returning to Minturn, going down the grade.

Pretty sure that's what happened. I have not seen those style number boards on *any* locos except the Mid-America repaints.
