Ok was it freewheeling ? Where is the loco, I don't see it anywhere !

It was being pulled by a small GE 44-tonner (LS&M 46) on the other end. It is so short you can't see it behind the Northern Pacific caboose.

Thanks for that, I did not realise you had such small locomotives in America! Did they have radio to communicate between the driver and the conductor? (the man in railway uniform) in the gondola? Enjoyable photo Dave. PS I do know of small (shunters) do you call them switchers? obviously for use in yards and loco servicing deports. I will try and add a picture of the smallest loco I've seen, that was used on standard gauge track. A 0-4-0 diesel loco.
