That was always one of my favorite paint schemes, both on the Lackawanna and later slightly modified on the Erie Lackawanna. When I see that Heritage Unit in photos, it always takes my breath for just an instant, because it looks like a brand new Lackawanna locomotive, and you just don't see many such photos. Of course, the NS Heritage Units are breathtaking for their own reasons, but not least of those reasons is that moment of recognition and reconnection to an old favorite long gone from the rails you remember. I wish the BNSF would do the same.
