I have always wondered why 3003's horn was mounted where it is in this picture. They have always been right in the center of the cab.

The 3003 was a unique unit. Wrecked at Wineger, Va on 8-24-77, it was rebuilt by ICG Pacducah, KY shops. She returned to the Clinchfield on 10-21-78 not only with the horn mounted off center, but with the modern "-2 style" vertical corrugated radiator grills. Something I have never seen before on any straight SD40!

In the photo of the wreck at Wineger, Va, that Kyle posted, I would bet the unit upside down is this 3003!

Greg, I am willing to bet that you are correct on that! I never made the connection!
