The brotherhoods complained all the time about meets using this remaining stub of the "Old CV." In cold weather or rain (and no caboose), the conductor would have to get off, line the switch, and then line it back to the main after the train was chambered. There was no place to get out of the weather--and sometimes it could be 30 minutes or longer before the train being met would show up. Until then, however, it was a popular choice with the dispatchers for meets--but not the train crews.
