This is amazing and I am surprised this is not screener's choice yet. These are traces of the primal stages of what was to become railroading. AMAZING find.

@James Burlington: Yes, they are. As a professional archaeologist, we consider anything more than 50 years old to be noteworthy.

Would be interesting here in2016 to have further news; guess I might ought to go play in a search engine to see what comes up. Who knows how much history is hidden where.

From what I can find out , a section of the track is being stabilised and has been acquired for display by the National Railway Museum, so that's good news
