A nice-looking profile. Hard to imagine that red and silver paint shining bright when this unit was new and blasting over the Tehachapi mountains on high-priority intermodals.

I hope that they don't finish that, it's a beautiful work of desert art. To me that is a sign of a loco that has earned its keep in the desert southwest.

This old war horse has a little history behind it. It is an original ATSF unit, 4-axle, 4,000 hp with a wide cab. 83 of this type were purchased by the ATSF. I found at least 3 pictures of this unit as ATSF-552, working in California. It would be nice to see some sort of ribbon or award painted on units like this in recognition of its service. Markings similar to those put on navy ships for performance! Oh the history of units like this makes the heart proud!
