And to think 12 years ago, this same carbody (with the now missing prime mover, of course) was dragging coal trains across Soldier Summit.

Stayed 2 night in the F45 in July 2011 on a railfan vacation. Luckily it rained on us (hard) one day and we got to spend a day railfanning from the cab. It was an experience I will never forget!

Log onto the website for the Izaak Walton Inn and get the detailed, fascinating story on the conversion of this loco from motive power to luxury lodging.

A truly unique and awesome way to preserve a locomotive. The story behind it is also pretty cool to read. A stay there is certainly going on the bucket list.

The conversion is amazing and very well done and was well worth the high cost ($350 a night/2 night minimum). But I have read that new owners/operators have considerably raised rates across the board, which makes me more glad I stayed when I did.

Wow, it looks pretty nice inside, and comfy too. I finally get to see those "funky fans" that I commented on years ago when I first saw this unit here on RP. Nice adaptation.
