Why is there a "cage! around the horn? That's pretty "wacky".

I would imagine the cage keeps the birds, mice, and rats that frequent grain storage areas out and off the horns during periods of non-use.

I’m thinking the cage might be a way to deter thieves from easily stealing the horn…
