When the 1 spot was used in railfan trip service, she was normally followed by either one or two F7 Booster units which were painted coach green and had CLINCHFIELD in cut out letters on the side grills. These booster units resembled head end cars, and when in use caused the 1 spot to be referred to as the worlds largest steam powered whistle ! Please scroll up and find the Hostler's control box (upper right corner) which had been removed from an out of service B unit and was used by the train's operator to control the boosters via standard Multiple Unit cables running through the tender. I wonder who put the control box in Run-8 ! I know of one model railroader who took a Tyco 4-6-0 (without it's motor and gearing) and used a pair of powered Athearn F 7-Bs to pull a passenger train.
