I don't see why Amtrak doesn't upgrade the Dash-8's.

I've heard talks that they're thinking about upgrading them with 12 cylinder GEVO engines to get more life out of them. I would think that in doing this, they would be upgraded to have at least 4000-4400 HP.

While I was an engineer out of LA,we put these miserable machines in service,we called these things Trash 8's.Amtrak got suckered into paying 1.75 million each.Myself and my asst.engineer ripped the man who bought these things a brand new one,we were not the least bit kind at all.It's my understanding he quit Amtrak about a month later.Only 2,100 hp for traction with the HEP going,these things had no business being passenger engines.

If the P42s, P40s, and Dash-8s got Gevo 12Cylinders...I would think they would run better and pull a lot easier. Get better HEP's as well, GE needs to build a passenger unit with the Evolution Series stuff.
