WOW! I lived less than a block away from this scene in the early 70's. This would be more like East Central Hobart (ex NKP). That's likely the "J" diamond. The "J's" Porter branch was removed the next year i believe.

Glad you enjoyed the photo Wayne and you are correct sir. The actual geographic location is in the central section of Hobart but it's known as West Hobart by the railroad crews, as determined by the control points and signals at either end of the long passing sidings. Just out of the photo and east of the EJ&E diamond is the west end switch for the westward siding. The Porter Line actually was in service until late summer of 1985.

Really enjoy your crossing shots. Saw so many lightly-used crossings 'back in the day' that have since been removed. Some I only visited a few times, and never saw a train, so very foolishly made no photos.
