That's an excellent photo. I've never seen traction motors before and I've always wondered what they look like. Do military personnel do all of the maintenance work on the railroad equipment, or do they have contractors for that?

From my experience, contracts perform all the maintenance. The Army is phasing out rail operators and deactivating rail units.

All the workers at the Defense Generator & Rail Center (DGRC) are government civilian workers and they take great pride in what they do and it shows in what they put out on the rails.
