Nice view of a steam locomotive with a smoke stack extender. It sounds like it was a good idea and I've seen photos where the smoke is lifted higher over the train while in motion to help keep the smoke away from the crew (and potential passengers if it were pulling a passenger train). However, the extenders were never really widely copied or used on other railroads.

Can you even imagine a locomotive this huge was rated for 100mph operation ? They were and they pulled passenger trains at the century mark where permitted for miles on end in ATS territory. This photo of 2922 taking water is enjoyable, especially with the lightweight roller bearing rods in the up position. Wait until the 2926 is completely restored out in Albuq. ! Then, Bruce you can go out and expertly photograph the 2926 !

Nice shot of a great locomotive, there is a group restoring the 2926 in Albuquerque NM so we might be able to see it in steam in a few years.
