Call me weird, but I look at a lot of mechanical things not as inanimate, but as having some type of soul. I feel more than a little sorry for this locomotive- especially where the debris is stuck in the window. Looks somewhat like an eye injury... maybe never to run again...

This is really sad - it reminds me of seeing a professional boxer being stood up by his trainer even though he has been pummeled. I saw your photos of the derailment, and it is a wonder there were no fatalities involving the crew or the homeowner.

I agree, Tom. It's kinda voyeur-like, somehow. Like finding a once-great person who has hit the skids.

1st time I've see one with a shiner.

I hope they can fix her up! But doesn't look good...

A very sad fate for a once very proud iron horse.

Hate to say it, but with all the new Evo's in the power pool, I have a feeling this old girl will be put out to pasture.
|
Wow!!!!! Like that is all i have to say this is really bad

Look's like it spent some time in a river.

If CSX's recent sale of other SD70MACs to PAL is any sign, I doubt this unit will turn another wheel, for CSXT at least...
|
From this angle the frame appears straight save for the front platform being cut away to facilitate the derailment recovery. Not that badly damaged.
|
Of course it had to be a still very clean YN2. Even if she is saved she will reemerge in YN3, which is just a depressing paint scheme.

CSX is not selling any more SD70MAC's. PAL is owned by 4 Rivers Corp which CSX owns, so that's why they sold 20 to PAL.
|
Poor SD70MAC hope it feels better

Doubt they will repair it. CSX seems to have soured on the 70MAC's, especially considering they sold 20 recently to PAL. This is one of the early ones CSX got in the mid 90's.
