Interesting photo even though it's not of a train. Why bother with salt to melt such a tiny accumulation of snow?

At least the gate was open!

"I waited all morning for a train..." I know that tune all too well.

Inclusion of Stop sign really gives life to the composition.

I second Greg's question. I have never seen a salt spray outfit used before, and I have railfanned in ND, MT and CO in the winter with loads of snow and brutal cold temps.

Greg: I am not sure of their concern with such a small accumulation of snow, perhaps they are afraid of frost heave destroying the sleepers (ties) and/or rail joints. Craig: Yes, the open gate was convenient since I didn't need to duck under the gate when going over the crossing to take this shot. Randy: Also, I embellished slightly about waiting, since I was actually sitting there catching up on my Facebook alerts (this is a good place in the pass to be when looking for WiFi reception). Ergo, I was not waiting for anything in particular. FSWood: I am actually surprised they allowed me to keep that element of the shot. Usually things like that are excised from the finished image in response to rejections due to "bad cropping."
